First question: Can someone tell me the pros and cons of welded exhaust tips versus clamp-on exhaust tips? I have never seen the clamp-on style, and I am not sure exactly how they look. All of the welded ones I see turn brown where the welds connect to the tip and look ragged. Does the clamp-on give a cleaner look? Which one would you choose, and why?
Second question: Which do you prefer, the rolled ends, or non-rolled ends, and why?
Personally I prefer welded tips as they offer a cleaner look when done well. I hate having clamps visible. I can't really explain the difference between clam and weld on style tips, other then to say that clamp on ones usually have a 3" long section that is tapered down to fit the pipe, most Magnaflow tips among others are like this and can be used either way.
As for the second question, I really prefer a 45 degree slash cut or turn downs, no real reason, just don't care for rolled edge tips.
A welded on tip is usually more secure, unless you use a very good clamp, there is always the risk that the tip could loosen over time, or that someone could steal it (not too common a problem but it does happen). Many tips that have built in clamps are lower quality, depending on who makes them and where you buy them, and what kind of clamp it is. And yes, the clamps can detract from the looks somewhat, again depending on what kind of clamp it is.
