Headers for 5.4L

I have a 2007 F150 Lariat 5.4 that I want to look into putting headers on.

What do you gears heads know of, suggest, or have opinions on what I should be looking for?

Cheapies are fine, get them ceramic coated inside and out, they will outlive the truck and save $$. I need some for my 4x4 f350

Unless you are going with long tube headers I wouldn't bother with them.

Why would short headers be not worth the time?

I thought increased diameter and lowering pressure would increase power. What am I missing?

The long tubes create a scavaging effect. More exhaust out of the cylinder then more air/fuel can enter the cylinder. The shorties can only do this on 1 or 2 cylinders at best. Look at their design. 1 or 2 longer tubes and a couple really short tubes. I'm sure they are good for a little HP but when they cost $450 to $700 a set you have to ask yourself if that is worth it. PaceSetter makes a set of long tubes for around $300 but you have to do some mods to get all the emmissions stuff to work. They are also for off road use only so you may have problems if your state does inspections. Search in the 04-08 section for headers, exhaust etc. Several members have installed both.

Well damn I have not put headers on anything besides turbo 4cly and they have always tried to make the tubes as close as possible to the same length. I see what you are saying I just thought they would all be that way just shorter. Damn...Thanks

I will have to delve into this further to see if it is worth the $$$ and trouble. I might do a GOTTS mod and programmer and see if it is enough.
