I'm going to change the spark plugs SP479 on my 1999 sd v10. can someone please tell me the the proper torque for a 1999 . I have read here that there are fewer threads on the 99 than on later models. Thank you. also is it with or without anti-seeze
I changed my plugs a few weeks ago and searched for the proper tourqe and found 10 different answers I think most people say around 14ft lbs, but I guess they blow out because they come loose. That being said I tourqed mine to 20ft lbs/240inch lbs with anti seize on the first few threads and am pretty confident they should hold, just be sure to blow all the dirt out of the holes before you take out the plugs and I would use motorcraft plugs. If you do a search you can read for days on V10 spark plug changes. Good luck it's not that bad of a job.
I know ,I have read quite a few threads and I have not seen a torque spec for a 99 v10. I even called two dealers and they did'nt know . But they were willing to do it for $500 ,imagine that.
Some use anti-seize, some don't, I do bc of dissimilar metals and galling. Torque to 14ft lbs.Be sure to check the plug boots for cracks and deterioration, on a 99 I would change them. Put dielectric grease on the boot where it seals to the plug (not the connection), where the boot seals to the head, and where it seals to the COP. Be sure to blow out the crap in the plug well with compressed air before pulling plug. Welcome to FTE these guys know their crap.
Thanks for all your help. I did notice a little corrosion inside the boot where the spring contacts the coil,I'll be sure to clean it up. I only pulled one plug and it came out easy,I hope the rest go as well.
Not many threads in there I wouldn't go cranking much more than the recomended torque. 9 ft lbs is right on the money 10 would be fine...But then I was a nuclear weapons specialist.

Over in the 6.8l v10 forum is a Tech Folder post 4 some interesting reading on v10 spark plugs you should take a look at.
I recently did my plugs. I also found a ton of different specs out there on the torque. I went to my dealer and the mechanic stated that the reason the plugs are blowing out is because they are being torqued in to light, backing out and then moving up and down in the threads- stressing them until they give. He said he torques new plugs at 20 lb/ft and thats what I did mine at.
I wish I would have read that sooner , I just did one side and torqued 15 ft.lb. does anyone have advice for getting at #9 plug (right side back) I am ready to give up and just change nine plugs. I have removed throttle ,vac line, breather tube and I still can't get my hands on it . Thanks
There was a guy over on the v10 forum that tested tourqe on an old 2v head he had laying around and he tourqed all the way to 100ft/lbs before the spark plug broke and the threads never gave up, so I felt safe going to 20ft/lbs on mine. I don't think I could sleep if they were at 9 or 10.

I didn't have to remove anything but the air intake tube on my 03.
