I have a 92 F150 4x4 5.0L E4od. first trans. had major internal failure so I bought one at a junkyard and rebuilt it myself. Put it in the truck, reverse is perfect, first gear after getting hot slips and has no more gears. Line pressure is very low, so figuring I screwed something up, and in the essence of snow and needing my4x4, I found one on Craigslist that had almost 50,000 miles on it since rebuild, Out of a 94 F150 but with a 4.9L, pulled mine out and put this one in. I do have the reciept for the rebuild ($1900.) parts and labor. Sooo fired it up, filled it with fluid, reverse great, drive seemed ok for the first 1/8th mile than slips and had no other gears including manual 2 or drive or overdrive. Pretty much same problem as the first. However, after putting in the second trans. I had to wiggle the manual lever position sensor (neutral safety) twice in order to get the truck to start. Any suggestions?? Thinking this could be the switch or has anyone seen or heard of a pcm causing this problem? After first trans. had no trouble codes and did not check after this second one yet as it was getting late. Thanks in advance for all your help
No. I replaced the converter when I did my rebuild. The trans. I just bought also had a reman converter in it too, so 2 different converters were used.
The trans. range/mlp sensor was used on all the trannys due to I replaced it with the ford part which was updated and I had to put on a new connector which will not plug onto the ther 2 that I have ust thought this might help
Electrical problems will not cause a no drive problem. You will always have a manual 2 and 4th gear in OD shifter position. Reverse also will always work.
ok well I think I actually had 2nd gear and not first. I did an eec test today and found the following codes. Keep in mind the engine was not warmed up too. 116 637 626 624 114 611 621 622 629 All relative to the solenoid body. I pulled the pcm and it did not have excessive corrossion on the pins. The bottom of the pcm was rusty, possible water intrusion I believe. I also double checked the solenoid body connector is connected and the pins all looked good without corrosion. Checked the wiring harness and can not find any cuts or abrasive marks on harness. Any further input would be greatly appreciated.
i dont know if a pcm problem will cause excessive low line pressure or not, but i know that i have un plugged the wires all together and i get manual 2 and 4th maybe try just unplugging the wires and see if you get 2 and 4, if not then something is wrong inside i know i have had a few e4ods that the 2-3 shift valve will be stuck in the v.b. and it will act all goofy. if it starts slipping out to nothing in any foreward gear then the foreward clutch pack is fried and it has to come out.
good luck man im havin issues with my 94 4th trans goin in the truck this one is used but only has 2nd and 3rd with no overdrive or first tries taking off in 3rd but if i put it in second it goes right in...my guess is to check all your wiring harnesses check all your plugs again
I'll bet it really has 2nd and 4th. When the solenoids are not powered and the shifter is in D the E4OD will be in 4th gear. With the solenoids not powered and the shifter in 2 the trans will be in 2. Have you run self test? Any codes?
