Ok, I'm going on my third radiator. I only have 72,000 miles on my 2008 King Ranch F-350, I love my truck. Is this the norm, replacing the radiator every time I get new tires??? I've owned many vehicles in my 42 years and have never replaced a radiator let alone 3. Ford picked up part of the tab for the last one and offered me $600 toward this one, but I have to foot the additional $800. Absolutely insane. Why isn't this a recall item? Any suggestions???
There are a few companies planning on making all-aluminum versions. I've been bugging them, but demand isn't high enough for them to put much time into them. One company is Mishimoto, they have radiator and intercooler for the 6.0L. The other is Performance Radiator. Both say they have plans for it, but no timeline.
As far as your cost right now, see if they'll knock $600 off the radiator price if you install it yourself, it's not very difficult.
I have learned its all about the tech that looks at your truck. As Senix mentioned, you may have hyperextended T-stats but my experience tells me if there isnt a code in the computer that says "DANGER, DANGER, LOOK FOR HYPEREXTENDED THERMOSTATS" then there is a strong chance they havent looked for that to be the problem. Dont just accept that its normal because its not. ask them to find the root cause.
You may have to help them - spend your time on this site - search out any TSB's or broadcat messages about radiators - print it out and take it to the serive tech - in fact make two copies hand one to the secheduler and leave one taped to the dash for the tech. Make sure the dealer's service department documents their diognostic conclusion Good luck
just got my truck back from ford, no tee at the bottle and they checked for a bad thermostat and was told 1500.00$ to replace Rad. Has anyone been to a rad shop to have the plastic sides removed and replaced with metal side. Got a price and seems like 1/4 the price. Anyone get this done. Truck has 93.316 km.

The T...was a recall. If the Venturi T is not there then they should put it there and fix the radiator. Might want to call Ford Cust service on the issue.

Get another dealer.
well just got off the phone with cust service and still without the tee installed, and being over my 60km. they wont cover me at all .They wont even cover the 20$ i payed for the tee. Funny i traded my f150 with 240km and it still had the same rad that came with it.WHAT A JOKE..
Well once you put the T in that should be the end of it. Who did you call? Ford of Canada?
yes call ford of Canada and they even called the dealer to find out more on the tee and were told that some trucks didn't need them.you think that once i put the tee in, the leak should stop? or still have to change the rad.Truck was built in 06 0f 07.
I am starting to have the same problem. I had two hoses go bad on me about 45k miles. Had them replaced and now at 54k miles and my radiator is being replaced. My service rep at the dealership got Ford to cover %60 percent of the cost. By looking at the forums I am seeing several people having problems with the radiators. I hope this is the first and last one I have to replace.
60% is better than many of us got from Ford. mine cost $1,150 installed at the shop my son works at - Not a Ford dealer. Be sure and ask for your old radiator, don't let them keep it - if nothing else it has scrap value - then take it to a Race shop and ask what it will cost to have a custom aluminum radiator built. I've just found the name of a shop that I will be getting a quote from for a custom radiator. I want to be ready for the next failure. I'll share what I find out.

Well after the new flash and mine went into reduced engine power same day... They told me it was for the thermostats... then called later and said the thermostat was hyper-extended; therefore, they replaced my very slow coolant leak radiator.
I had searched the radiator over and over and had never seen any sight of coolant; it would drop about an inch every few months. Nothing in the driveway. It had previously been checked by tech for hyper-extended thermostat by the old TSB method of comparing the oil temperature and coolant temperature; the new TSB regarding measuring the thermostat came out after he had checked it last year.
It would seem to me that they have programmed it to detect the temperature fluctuation spikes caused by a hyper-extended bypass thermostat causing the primary thermostat to open and close......
Interesting, I am kind of expecting the same thing after a hose leak was fixed I still have a slower leak that has no visible signs. The clutch fan likes to go on and off a lot at idle too which will be interesting to see what the cause is.
