Determining if Keyless entry is installed
Determining if Keyless entry is installed
I have purchased a 97 F150 Extended cab Lariat. It is a "fixer upper".
I received only a single "regular" key with the truck.
I just noticed that when locking the truck that the THEFT light comes on.
I had previously assumed that the security system only came in combo with the keyless entry on the F-150.
Can anyone confirm that this is a correct assumption?
If so, I assume the dealer can sell me a Key FOB.
If not, how could you determine if the truck has keyless entry?
Thanks.

Determining if Keyless entry is installed
i recently purchased a 2000 f150 and i have the same situation. you can contact the Ford customer hot line...they should be able to tell you if it came with the lariet package (which it probably did). in my situation, I was told that my vehicle had keyless entry installed due to the XLT option but that it may not have been turned on). Other options :you could remove the door panel and look inside the door for a black box or turn your ignition on and then off 9 times and if you have keyless entry, your locks are supposed to pop up.....it did'nt work for me but mybe for you ....good luck....g
Determining if Keyless entry is installed
Hi and welcome to FTE
I believe that a Lariat should have Remote Keyless Entry.
I also believe that you're right that if it has anti-theft it also has keyless entry.
According to the manual if it has keyless entry and anti-theft there should be a RAP (remote anti-theft personality) module behind the left kick panel. You remove the front door scuff plate then pull the kick panel straight back. Behind there you should find a squarish module with 2 connectors and an antenna coax cable plugged into it. If that's there you have RKE and anti-theft.
As for programming the key fobs here is what the manual says......
Programming
NOTE: All keyless entry remote transmitters must be programmed at the same time.
To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the RAP module, perform the following steps:
1. Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered.
2. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN five times within ten seconds, ending in RUN. If the RAP module has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.
3. Press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed.
4. If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to five minutes after step 2, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the RAP module will lock and unlock all doors one last time to confirm.
Hope this helps.
