I have an F-150, 5.4L, ext cab 4 dr. CD Radio, etc, etc, etc. with keyless entry from the key pad. The other day I looked in the book that came with the car and saw a card that said "This is your permanent keyless entry code" It had 5 numbers like all Ford key codes. Strange thing is, there is no key pad on the door to enter the key code. How can I tell if the car had keyless entry that the key pad was just removed? Any ideas? Thanks
I wonder if the card with the number on it really belonged to your truck. If you remove the keyless entry number pad you'd be left with a hole in the door.....not likely someone would do that
I just went out and bought the proper color handle with the cutout and the keypad and installed it. The code works fine, and so does the one I programmed it for.
Forgot to mention, the keypad is usually only on the Lariat, the XLT's don't have it, but the same computer box is used on both trucks. I guess it cost Ford less to just make one box instead of two different ones. I know this is the way it is on newer models (2001 and up), I don't know if older trucks are the same or not.

I think it's available as an option on the XLT. If you ordered one from the factory, for instance.
You can install the stick on key pad (3l2z 14a626 aa,I think)for about $135.Takes about 5 minutes to install and code.Put one on my 03 Screw.Works good.
Depends on the year if you can just plug in the keypad, or if you have to get it activated at the dealership. Early '05's had to be activated, but later units had it activated by default. The in handle keypad runs for around $60, compared to $120 to $150 for the stick ons. There is a dealer in Vegas that will sell to us pickup guys for around 25% off
If you have the plug inside the door, you can add the keypad. It will light even if it's not activated. Just combine the activation service with some other service if you can.

I would never want a keypad on my truck. I used to have an 01' Screw 2x4 and the first day I brought it to work one of the guys I worked with started playing with the key pad and cracked the code in a minute no joke!!!! . The worst thing is every so often I would start my truck after work and that chump would turn the blower all the way up and the windsheild wipers on and that really stunk knowing if he could get in that easy who else would be able to. So now I have an 03' XLT Fx4 Screw. Oh and by the way all f-150's have that key pad code and if you don't have the card look under the dash board by the fuse box and you will see a computer box that has the truck code or engine code on it, I think they are the same.
When we PDI them at our dealership there are in a lot of them found in the trucks glove box BUT no keypad is on the door- can't get an answer from any of our Ford reps on that one
