1979 new carb now problems

1979 new carb now problems

i but a new carb on my 400. now when a floor it, it back fires. it may just be something stupid i dont know. help anyone?

Did you recheck the timing after putting the new carb on?

Also, is it backfiring out of the carb or out of the tailpipe? I believe out the carb means its too lean, and out the tailpipe its too rich.

thanks. i didnt have time to check anything i put the carb on then see if it would start, it did so i left until i drove it today and it backfired out exhaust.

is jetting alright for the truck? if it's a new carb, i'd make sure to check it.

also adjust your accelerator pump, if it's adjusted too rich it'll cause a back fire when you floor it. (loosen it, set bar further back, whatever, less torque when you floor it)..

have fun, adjusting the carb for fuel is something that can last the lifetime of a vehicle.. and like others would say, adjust timing to spec before trying to mess with fuel mixture.
