now that I have my new intake, I need to buy a carb, and I am just wondering one what I should buy.
I have heard the 390 is great, but others have used 500's and 600 cfm carbs. What is too big, and what could be the problem of using too large of a carb on my 4.9L
Would I get more HP out of a larger carb or is the 390 more than enough?
Thank you
Hey 007, I recently installed a 450 Holley on mine. The carb is originally off a 66 - 67 390FE motor. It works great, though I did install larger jets in it because with the stock jets, it was running too lean. I increased the jet sizes from 57's to 63's and it works great. I have seen people run the Edelbrock 500's on theirs and they seem to really like those too. I'm just partial to Holley. I guess because I know more about them than the AFB style carbs and I like the looks of Holley carbs too.
