poocher pup we are like a big family here,a dysfunctional weird one especially with a few of the members we have in here but none the less.you posting this tells me you think of us the same way.i wish you the best in your recovery.i have a friend that had the same amputation and ill tell you what he will surprise ya.heck i knew him for 2 years before i found out he was an amputee.it dont slow him down one iota, and he also drives a 5 speed.
i agree with Josh.
a friend of mine lost his lower left leg in Nam.
after he got home he got a peg, and started driving trucks for a living. he retired last year after 40 years as a teamster.
over those 40 years, as the advancements in prosthetics came about, the vet center gave him the newest there was. by the time he retired, you could not even tell anything was wrong with him. not even a limp.
and to the day he retired, he refused automatic trans trucks. even his personal vehicles were all manual trans.
if you set your mind on doing something, no one in this world can stop you from doing it if you really want to.
i for one have faith in you making fools out of the doctors that told you you will never walk again.
Hope keep your spirits high and you recover well and soon , dont get your hopes down my dad has a freind that is missing one arm and a leg and drives a stick just fine, you just have to keep your spirits up and keep on trukin !
Hi Grant, I think the boys already summed it all up pretty good - where there is will there is a way, from what I have seen from your posts here and there it most certainly looks like you have strong will, and so I believe you will find a way to again be all you ever were and then some! Best wishes for speedy recovery!
Thanks to all that have taken the time to write back, and even those that read my post. You all are kind and true, the staples are tlo come out on the 17th. Doctors says it then needs 2 weeks to heal then can fit prosthetic. Advancements are really cool in what is out there now. As a machinist i could build one myself, but the materials and systems they are built with now is great. Looks like the site is still doing well, and will return to help others in need as soon as possible. Grant
I wish you a good recovery, thanks for the support. I am going to be disabled before too long if my back comes to get worse than it already is. So i feel your struggles. You will walk again. YOu have the will and determination to do so. Good luck and god bless.
