I have PATS, according to the orig window sticker, but no theft light. So I'm thinking it must be burnt out. I will be pulling the dash to replace all the bulbs, but for those with PATS are there other indications of the system being installed and working? Such as how does it properly operate and is the module easy to find? Pics?
For example, if I press the FOB lock button one the doors lock. On second press I get the horn honk.
The Theft light flashes once every once in a while when the key is out of the ignition. If you are able to start the engine with your PATS key, then it is working.
Yes, if you press lock button once, all doors lock. Press it again, and the horn beeps.
On the driver's side door where the number buttons are, if you press 7/8 and 9/0 button simultaneously, it locks all doors.

No light so burnt out or not installed.
PATS key? Yeah, I can't find a pic of a "known" PATS key. I know what mine looks like, but don't "know" what a PATS key should look like.

Yup, that happens. Will that happen on a non-PATS Ex?

Too bad the actuators don't work. Yes, did the mod but the driver's side is still too weak to move the lock. The others work, just not the drivers.
A PATS key is a key. The head of the key is this thick black plastic casing that has a door like opening on the end that houses an RFID chip. This chip when is in proximity with the receiver lets the car know that it has the right key to start the car. If you just put a non-PATS key into the ignition and turn the key, the starter would turn, but the engine will not start.
If you plan on getting more keys made, you will need 2 working PATS keys to program a third key or more.
You can buy an uncut key off Ebay, go to Walmart and ask them to just cut it for you to match your current key. I did that once and they did it for free since I had my own key.
To program a new key, put the first working key in the ignition and turn it to the on position for a second and back and remove key. (don't start the engine) Next, put the second working key in and turn it to the on position for a second and back and remove. Next put the new key in and turn it to the on position for a second and back. Wait about 15 seconds and the key should be programmed to start the vehicle.
All X's came stock with pats keys. The rcver is under the column cover near the ignition. Needs close proximity to work, and only disables the starting of the truck and is not an alrm in any way. I have not heard of any one taking it out. During alarm installs some add the appropriate work around and some cheap out and just tape a pats key on the rcvr to get around it, leaving the truck vulnerable to theft.
At initial start up you should get a light up of all dash bulbs as a quick test for the lights. Best to check then and if no worki then the bulb is out.
The single chirp of the horn at lock down signifies all doors closed. If one door is not fully closed the horn will double chirp.
