Actually, the plate is just a sapcer between the engine and transmission. The bolts for the transmission go through it into the engine block. There are 2 dowel pins that locate the spacer on the back of the engine, no mechanical fasteners are used.
on the 6.9 it actually bolts to the back of the block and its steel! these new ones are made cheap! you probably can get it welded but for 25$ I WOULD buy that ebay one.

Get that part form ebay that Chris posted. before some snags it. Like me !.
Once you get the part, Take it to the tranny place and see if they will swap it. Or they will zap you a ton of money for the part. Meet them half way on the swap maybe they will own up or help you with it then.. You can always resell the part if you don't end up using it.
Ditto Dan's suggestion.
If you don't approach them with a solution, they will certainly provide one for you and likely with no wiggle room on your part.
Be the one to start things and I think you will come out with your truck running again and feeling not so bad about the whole ordeal.....that is if they are a "top of the line shop".
It should not cost them but around $300 to $500 to change out that part.
My local shop charges $600 to pull and replace a tranny.
No damn it i was at work all day. Well i will have to keep my eye open for another one on ebay. I talked to the owner and he is sending a tow truck Monday for it. I also told him there was tranny fluid on the bottom of the pan. I needed to talk to him about some questions i had on the trans anyway. We will see how things go next week i guess I am taking more pictures just so i have i have something. But that will have to wait till my mini vacation. Im just glad it happened home and not on the trip.
