Dang Chris that aint a bad price...It would be worth it to just have for insurance...What you were explanning about the tranny and engine thing I think you are correct in your convictions.
And how is it that the spacer could have broke. Bolts being to tight, starter not being in correct location, i have heard some starters need to be shimmed?
yea but i have been looking at pictures of transmission and it seems like there are holes for the bolts. Thats it. Sorry if im not on your level. I have now viewed pictures of the plate. Could over tightening the bolts to the plate cause it crack they way it did.
Ok look at the pics of the link that is provided then whip out the credit card and buy it cuz your gonna need it...After the tranny and flywheel are removed you will see that there are more bolts that connect the plate to the engine so the tranny can bolt up to the outer holes that are on the bell housing.
Now just guessing but the guy who put your tranny in was not a gentle person while installing or removing the tranny and could of hit the tranny where the starter line up, or removed the starter and was ruff about putting it back in....At this point its anybodies guess????
look pal, your starter bolts to a plate, plate bolts to the engine, trans bolts to plate
Actually, the plate is just a sapcer between the engine and transmission. The bolts for the transmission go through it into the engine block. There are 2 dowel pins that locate the spacer on the back of the engine, no mechanical fasteners are used.
...or the bolts being too loose and caused some flexing on the spacer and stressed out the metal. I think it's only aluminum.
Correct, it is aluminum. Cast aluminum at that, doesn't take much to break it.
It is possible the guy who did the trans work pryed against it to remove the trans and fractured it, and over time the starter torquing on it finally made it crack all the way through.
Well thank you very much. I guess i will call the company that built the trans. and installed it in the morning and see what they say. Seeing how they just had it last month
