air brake problems
I have a 1998 f-800.It has the automatic slack adjusters,but i think there stripped out or something?I have to get under the truck about twice a week,sometimes more to tighten the slack adjusters.I've never had them off so i dont really know how they work,but i can feel them click when i tighten them.Is it possible for them to strip and back themselves off?

I don't know much about them but I had a similliar issue with mine on a 99 Pete. Swapped them out for the regular old driver adjustable ones. A couple people told me that the are automatic but do require periodic adjustment and they do wear out or go bad pretty often. Is it on every axle or just a couple?

auto slacks tend to be quite reliable. they do, however, have finer teeth in gearsets, and can wear and "skip" causing what you describe. do you have abs? are brakes wearing uneven from side to side and/or top to bottom? if you replace- use same product, (autos), or if you go manual, change them all.

Slack adjusters (manual or auto) are designed to back off under high braking pressure applications to keep from breaking the drums.With wear they will back off under lower pressure.
With auto slacks you should rarely have to manual adjust them but should be checked on occasions
The front have a lower back off pressure than the rear so make sure you get the correct ones
