Just bought an 08 6.4L F250. Have had minor issues which forums helped me resolve. Now I have a check engine light and reduced power. Got it read at an auto zone and they said the code was for low coolant. The coolant level is fine. Doesn't appear to be losing coolant at all. Sometimes when I have run the truck temp gauge has bearly gotten over cold, on colder days. Warm day today and the truck run near the middle of the range. Felt my overflow container and it is circulating and warm. Reduced power sucks as turbo appears to no longer function and truck slowed to 50mph on the interstate today on a hill.
Bad sensor? Where are the sensors? Will probably break down and see dealer soon but over 60K so its all on me. Anyone had simalair experenc?
You are also warranted to 100K on the diesels not 60K so get it in and fixed for free assuming it is an engine issue. BTW I had a similar power issue and it was the first turbo that went out.
Correct on code being wrong. My dpf is stopped up. This is not covered by the warrenty since the previous owner ran offroad red fuel in it. Dealer says I need either a cleaned/new dpf and probably a EGR valve as well.
Anyone know how to clean dpf on 6.4? Read some threads on cleaning with water and some said absolutely do not. Can I expect to have addtional problems from the offroad fuel, have put 5 tanks of good thru it so most of it should be gone.
Off road fuel is dyed red for ID purposes based on road taxes. Ford does not recommend or cover the use of dyed fuel but I haven't heard where it is actually detrimental to the truck unless it is of the higher sulfur contented fuel.
We haven't had Non-ULSD dyed fuel for years now, hard to believe anyone else has either. I'd also make them prove the problem. If all else fails I'd deleted the DPF and EGR since Ford is not going to honor the warranty anyway. Before that I'd also have some words with the the place I bought it from.

Don't want to get in an argument, but there is still dyed LSD being sold. The reason I know this we had a crane with the emissions stuff on it and would not run worth a dang, had mechanic out multiple times, got the report from the dock where we were getting fuel for our tugs & equipment and wouldn't ya know LSD and not ULSD....so for the crane had to start hauling in ULSD while the tugs run the LSD w/ no probs.
I use Red diesel in all my bulldozers. They still sale it here in texas, but you have to buy it at a fuel distributor and have a tax exempt license on file at the distributor you are buying from. I am not aware of any service station/gas station that sales red dye diesel here. I think the ticket/fine here in texas is $10,000 if DOT pulls you over and finds red diesel in your truck. But due to the fact that it will destroy the new engines produced in the last few years, DOT does not have to worry much about it, they are just concerned with catching the guys with the older style motors that will run red dye diesel.
I have put red dye diesel in my 2001 dodge on a few occasions when I found my self at a job site of mine and was concerened about making it back to to town without running out of fuel, it ran it fine with no problems, but of course it didnt have all the emission stuff on it that our new trucks have now.
