I can't seem to find what I need with the "search", so, can anyone tell me if I can install a temp sensor in the stock diff cover on my Dana 80? I am putting the new Eaton Tru-Trac in tomorrow and thought I would go the extra mile, if I can.
You can drill and tap the stock cover for the sender, but there won't give you much thread contact. I would prefer to add a NPT bung the proper size for the sender and weld it in. You could also use a nut that has been drilled and tapped to that size. Just a little added "security" in my mind.
Years ago, there was a company out of Riverside CA, that offered a system of sensors (thermocouples?) 4, 6, or 8 each, indicator, & a rotary switch to switch between each of sensors. They were designed to be expoxied to whatever you wanted to monitor.
Worked well as long as you really cleaned the surface they were to be mated to when expoxying them.
While probably not perzackly accurate, they were really good for monitoring and noting any flucuations that were a precursor to trouble.
