Abs light

I have read on this forum that if the abs light comes on you should try and change the sensor on the rear diff. My question is why does it only come on when towing for a long distance is because the oil in the diff. gets to a certain temp and causes the sensor to fail and light to come on.

You could try pulling the sensor out and cleaning it, but its not an expensive part. You also aren't guaranteed that its the rear sensor, there is one on each front hub as well, those are the spendy ones.

I also had my ABS light come on a couple weeks ago. I tried to pull the rear diff sensor but with no luck. Can someone suggest how to get that out after removing the bolt? I tried to pry it out with a screw driver but i did not want to break it. So I plugged it back in and the ABS has not come back on???
You can also check for any cripped or cut wires running to your front sensors as well.

Twist, wiggle, and pry. It doesn't come out easy.

Has anyone had trouble with it when only pulling a trailer.
That is the only times I have had issues after about 4 to 5 hours of continuous driving and my speedo is of about 10kph off, reads higher when light comes on.

i let me sister drive my truck about 400 miles each way this weekend and she told me that the ABS light came on after she stopped to get fuel about 350 miles into the trip and it stayed on for 10 mins and then went off. i'm not sure what that means but it's interesting to see this tread and read about other trucks that had this happen on long drives...

Two different times after pulling my fifer down long mountain grades my ABS light came on and stayed on for about 30 to 45 minutes. Both times my rear axle was to hot to touch and water I squirted on it would boil. I guess very high temps can cause it to come on.

my problem started when i was on my way somewere and the light came on durring driving. so i tested my brakes to make sure i still had them and i did. everything is normal as far as how the truck feels. went were i had to go on my way home the light was still on when i started the truck but about a minute or two after the light went out. i checked the wiring to the abs sensor to the front wheels and they look ok. any idea?

Where you using cruise control that seems to be the only time that mine come on also the speedo is out a bit when that happens I notice the difference with my GPS showing me what speed I was actualy doing
