Rebuilding your heater? Read this!

If you are rebuilding your heater box or replacing your core, order this!! I saw a thread on here suggesting it from a few years ago. Nobody had actually tried the fit of it; as it is meant for a Bronco. Evidently they used the same heater box. Looking into it further, I found that this distributor was literally right around the corner from my house. I went to their warehouse, asked to look at a kit, and it appeared that it would work. Got home with it, and sho nuff, fits like a glove. Here's the website...definitely worth the money to neaten up the insides of the former mouse house. Total investment: $19.65...

I can post some pics for you tomorrow. Due to still having a couple of parts to paint, I haven't actually assembled it yet fully. I'll take them before I put it all together. I did trial fit them...great fit. Just have to figure out what adhesive to use to attach the flat pieces to the two flappers. Any suggestions?

Bronco: 1965/72 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog / Illustration Section 184, Page 8. The same illustration is in the 1973/79 Passenger Car Parts Catalog.

1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog, Illustration Section 184, Page 9.

Compare these illustrations of the DELUXE heater.

What some ppl may be unaware of...is: Since heaters were an option, not all of the trucks will have the DELUXE heater, and so...some will have the ECONOMY heater instead...which is not the same as any Bronco.

Mitch, do you mean heater core?

C2TZ18476A (replaced C1TF18476A & C1TZ18476A) .. Heater Core / Obsolete

Fits: 1961/64 F100/1100.

One obsolete parts vendor has one. No one else has any.

I sent you the info in an email.

Bill,

bwilliams, thanks for the source. It's been several yrs. since disassembled the heater and reconditioned. Checked several Ford part supplier's, at the time, and found it difficult finding gaskets, seals, etc., for the 65-66 heater and ended up refab the components. IMHO, the Bronco heater kit appears to be a suitable alternative, may not be able to use some of the components but IMHO for the price it's better than nothing. bwilliams, would be interested on your take of the kit once job is completed.

ND, I can help. Here is the page you reference. Both heaters are shown. The economy heater is in the inset, you have said in the past that the deluxe heater has two additional cables, one controlling the heater water valve and another to allow fresh air circulation. Maybe the economy lacks the square duct? but I am not sure if there are any other major differences. Maybe you can take it from here to elaborate.

The Deluxe heater's two cables (18518 & 18552), bracket (18B358), ***** (18534) and etc are shown just to the left of and below the left defroster duct (18A637).

Pictures posted

I have pictures posted in my gallery of the kit components. This DOES fit the economy heater box, as that is what is in my standard cab 66. The pictures in the parts catalog are not detailed enough to see the differences and do not include the seals in the illustrations anyway. There is evidently no difference in the size or shape of the heater box. That's the only reason I bought this, because I knew I could take it back if it didn't work. But alas....IT WORKS.

Appreciate the follow up, pic's very helpful. Certain heater in the 65 flareside is the economy heater box, not sure about the 65 CC, but as noted earlier, and Bill mentioned in thread previously, kit is obsolete and no long available. Appears if only use 3-4 of the pieces in the kit it's paid for itself; the cost for the firewall heater hose seal, and the motor mount seal alone are $6 ea., heck half way there. Again thanks for the 'headsup'. Anyhow, had an urge to chime in and add my

If you follow the diagram, ALL of the parts will fit the economy box and form a nice tight seal. The only difference in the economy and the "deluxe" is the control of the output without reaching under the dash...at least that's how it appears. If you look at the parts differences, the only cutaway of the economy box is of the side where none of these parts go! The main part of this kit seals the heater core into the box and the fan motor mount likewise. I'll post more pics of the actual install this weekend.

When I redid mone I found out there was a lot of parts from other vehicles that fit mine. I rewired mine from a bronco diagram. I also bought a door and lock set for a mustang. I found out that it fit my 66 perfect and about 30 bucks less than a 66 set.
