Here's my truck, what do you think?

As per request, an intro to my 1965 F100 240 I6

Complete with pictures!

I got the truck from my grandfather who's had it since the 70's. Basically been 2 owners and meticulous maintenance, aside from cosmetics. It was a ranch truck. The front grill is bent from where a cow backed into it. 104K original miles and stock everything. Well, not quite, I did put an Ooga horn on it...

Yes that's my Ranger in the background.

The oil bath air cleaner is disconnected because I was working on the carb today.

And more to come as I restore the old bird!

Actually, the "cow damaged" grill adds to the lore and history of the truck. Much better story than some idiot backing into you at the mall :-). Always nice to see someone keep and restore/refurbish a family truck. I wasn't as lucky.

Oh yeah, send that Ooga horn back to J.C. Whitney. Some guy selling them was near our spaces at Pate and that's all I heard for four days.

Your truck looks brand new. I don't see any rust, just some dirt from using it. Good man!

Then I guess I should keep it on there? I was thinking about changing the intake to some K&N thing, but maybe not. The oil bath should have better cleaning and better air flow anyway, right?

The oil bath does a better job IMO of keeping the dust and dirt out of the engine...plus that air cleaner on there is a pretty rare one I would assume...

I like things original, but to me, its easier maintenance as far as the air cleaner goes...lots cheaper too then a K&N set up too...

hey! my 65 originally sold here in AZ has one of those air cleaners!

but now I have one off of the 240 I got from Bill W, amazing what you can do with a couple rattle cans (and yes I know it isn't correct, but I felt like being different! haha)

(sigh) Take a gander at the engine pics in posts #1 and #5.

See that round gizmo with the loooong snout on it?

That's the air cleaner for the smog pump. I wasn't referin' to the oil bath air cleaner.

I saw it....rare stuff as i said...like the air cleaner...I once had a 66 Buick with the ca. smog stuff on it...all intact...never seen one like it since either....The Ford setup is pretty interesting to look at compared to todays gadgetry.

As others mention sharp truck and cool to see the smog pump attachment; never seen one until today. If you decide to change your grille; & want to keep it orginial search for a true 65 style grille. I'm sure several folks here have one for sell; as mention by CS65
Agiann sharp truck with a soild core.

What most people (excepting myself and CS65, mebbe others) are unaware of is...the following:

Officially, the 1966 grilles are correct for 1965's. If you look up 1965 grilles in the parts catalog, you'll see 1966 part numbers.

The reason why is: In September 1965, Ford obsoleted the 1965 grilles, replaced them with 1966 grilles for use as Service Part Replacements.

Ditto for the 1964/66 F100/250 2WD Styleside tailgate. In September 1966, Ford obsoleted the 1964/66 tailgate, replaced it with the 1967 (1967/72) tailgate for use as a Service Part Replacement.

Because of Ford's stupid moves, both the correct and original 1965 grilles and 1964/66 Styleside tailgates can be a PITA to find in today's world.

Service Part Replacement: Parts sold at the parts counter.

btw: One new member (not sayin' who) just bought a 1965 F100 Styleside, posted pics of it. I took a look-see, didn't wanna pass along the fact that his truck has a 1967/72 tailgate on it.
