More cool stuff - engineering test mode

For those with the full message center - hold down the "down arrow" button on the left hand steering control and turn on your truck.

For those without the full message center - hold down the reset button and turn on your truck.

After a few seconds, the truck will enter engineering test mode which is really just a bunch of hidden info screens you can scroll through - there aren't any settings here you can affect.

Some of the data reported:

- gauge sweep test
- led light test
- rom checksum test (useful for tuners)
- rom and epprom levels
- any continous DTC's
- fuel level remaining (gallons and %)
- mileage and DTE
- engine RPM
- vehicle speed
- battery voltage
- coolant temp
- a/d converter values
- lcd screen test

and a few others I've forgotten.

Pretty cool stuff.

Cool find! I just tried it; there is a LOT of information there. If only I understood it all!

Added to tech folder!

This should be a good thread. Has anyone captured the rest of those secret codes? You know the ones I am talking about, "while holding your left foot off the floor mat, rubbing your belly, hit the hazard button 3 times followed by stepping on the gas pedal to get the moonroof to open by saying opensaysame"? The sales guy when he wanted to show me the truck found it was still in transport mode, he did the thing with the ignition, brake pedal and then hazard button to get it back to normal mode.

I saw a couple of them in the manual but there has to be more of them somewhere.

Tried mine - Regular message center... I got nothing...

Any further instructions?

I held Reset while starting & Didn't let it off for about 20 seconds..

Maybe works only on newer rigs? Or only on 6.7 Diesel?

I am curious also, but the procedure seemed to indicate that you turn the truck on, not necessarily start it. Did you hold down reset and just turn the key to the on position?

I tried both - Not sure how long I was suppose to hold down the reset - when I just Flipped the key (Not Starting engine) I didn't stay on the reset as long..

Also the OP mentions one of the messages is Vehicle RPM which would indicated the truck was started...

Thanks for the clarification. Good point about the RPM also.

You can do it both ways - running or not - both have useful info.

For eample if you just turn the truck to on you can get a voltage reading off your battery to see if it is dead or not in terms of being able to start your truck.

If it is running, you get the alternator charging voltage which should be slightly north of 14 volts when you don't have a bunch of accessories/lights running.

The procedure is the same for both message centers - the button location is in the same place - left side steering wheel switch cluster. Its the bottom button either demarked as a "down arrow" or a "reset". Hold the switch down and turn the truck to either the on position or running (start). The mode will come up within about 3 or 4 seconds of while continuing to hold the button down.
