More cool stuff - engineering test mode
Also, you can enter the mode in just the run position and then start the truck. You can exit the mode by either turning the key off or holding the same button down for three seconds while in this mode.
I have the basic and I can't get it to work starting the engine; tried twice.
I can only get it to work with the key @ ON position.
I tried waiting until the 4x2 mode message clears and then starting and I also tried an instant start (first time ever I have started my truck before the guages cycle).
Byram,
I held down RESET.
Put key in and turned to the ON position.
I'm not sure how long I continued to hold down RESET but maybe five seconds.
It then entered the engineering mode.
It takes several minutes to click through all of the menus.
One of the screens I was interested to see while driving (can't remember now) so I'll have to try each time I start it instead of starting it unnecessarily.

I turned the key off before starting to clear that mode (the only way to exit from it).
Get that mode started at key ON then start.
I'll try that tomorrow.
EDIT: yea, have to put it in eng. mode prior to starting.
Ok, I discovered something.
Some of us have said our speedometer is fast.
Well, put your truck into eng. mode and scroll to the MPH screen.
Go drive and let me know what you think.
The computer screen reports nearly accurage MPH (close to my GPS) but the speedometer gauge was an average 3 MPH faster. What's up with that? It's obvious the truck knows what speed it's going.
Coolant temp is cool too since I don't have the tranny/oil temp screen.
Too bad they couldn't give us basic users the coolant temp on the normal screen.
It was around 93-94 C at 50 MPH in 5th and averaged 89-90 C at 70 MPH in 6th.

Okay all I'm sorry for bringing back an old thread but I was looking through the tech folder and saw this and I'm not sure if maybe one of the flashes changed something but I cannot seem to get mine to go into engineering mode...is it still possible to do?
Tired it today, a flash screen came up and said Engineer Mode, then nothing. Just my regular mode functions, so like btm991, I'm wondering if this was disabled or if the control functions to get the engineer mode to show has changed.
Thanks
Thanks
My truck is a 2012 with a 10/2011 build date and it has the test mode.
With my 2003 if you hold down the milage reset button and turn on the ignition it goes into test mode that way. The only time I ever used it was after replacing the alternator I wanted to see what voltage the new alt was putting out while driving down the road.
Everything else displayed didnt make any sence to me, it had a "manufacture date" setting that was like 1277??? I wonder how to translate that one?

Reps 2 U!
For those with the full message center - hold down the "down arrow" button on the left hand steering control and turn on your truck.
For those without the full message center - hold down the reset button and turn on your truck.
After a few seconds, the truck will enter engineering test mode which is really just a bunch of hidden info screens you can scroll through - there aren't any settings here you can affect.
Some of the data reported:
- gauge sweep test
- led light test
- rom checksum test (useful for tuners)
- rom and epprom levels
- any continous DTC's
- fuel level remaining (gallons and %)
- mileage and DTE
- engine RPM
- vehicle speed
- battery voltage
- coolant temp
- a/d converter values
- lcd screen test
and a few others I've forgotten.
Pretty cool stuff.
