I had a new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and 2 different salve cylinders replaced last year and have about 6000 miles on them. All has been fine other than the slave cylinder that needed replaced but i dont have any trouble with chatter other then when i make the trip to school, about 100 miles interstate driving. After a long ride it chatters pretty bad when taking off from a stop and almost unstoppable to drive in reverse. Its done this for about the whole time if i can remember right. What could be the problem and is there a simple fix? Thanks
so it chatters when the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel are engaged and the truck is moving? does it "chatter" at highway speeds or just in 1st or 2nd gear? did you clean your parts from the "shipping lube" that keeps them from rusting. my buddy had a small vibration when his clutch friction disk was all gummed up... the parts would have to be quite gummed up to cause chattering though... more details would be helpful... any particular gear that does it most? You got your drive shaft(s) on nice and tight right???
Some causes of clutch chatter.
Oil/grease on clutch (as already mentioned) or warped clutch disc or warped pressure plate or sticking release bearing or loose engine mounts or loose universal joints or loose bellhousing bolts. Probably more that I can`t think of.
It only chatters after my 100 mile drive to school and ONLY from a dead stop, either in 1st or reverse, reverse is worse than 1st. That is the confusing part is is doesnt chatter unless i drive it for a long time like my trip to school. If i let it sit after the drive for about 45 mins its fine. But when its chatters, it chatters pretty bad.
well if you want my suggestion... crawl under your truck and make sure your u-joints are good and they are tighten down. Then check all your bolts and nuts... ie all the ones mentioned above. tighten everything down really well and if you have problems after that... well your SOL and you'll have to take everything apart again... which is kinda well....dough!
My 95 did the same thing. It would chatter real bad in reverse, heat would make it worse. I changed trans mount and it stopped. Mount wasn't broke, just wore out I guess you could say.
