First time: Rebuilding a C6
The transmission in my 79 Bronco is on its last leg. I usually will take my automatics down to a guy I know who rebuilds them for me. This time I want to take a stab at it myself, I have been told that C6s are pretty simple. I'm not scared of tearing into things: I can rebuild axles and set up gears, I have done a couple manual transmissions and several transfercases, I have never gotten past the torque converter or the pan and filter on an auto. Before I get started I thought I'd ask you guys for any suggestions or advice. Are there any special tools I will need, rebuild and shift kit recommendations? It's going behind a 460 that will eventually be getting built up as well. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mark! I do have a dial indicator (need one for setting up R&Ps too) with the magnetic base. I picked up a repair manual and have been doing some reading up on it. I guess I can't see how your homebrewed tool (I'm not knocking it, hell some of my best tools are homemade) works but I guess I'll find out when I get in there. I appreciate the info. What brand of rebuild kits and shift kits do you recommend? Thanks again!
