Anti Gel question

Hey guys having a little bit of an arguement at my shop. Can NAPA Mac's 9600 fuel conditioner be used for ultra low sulfur fuel. The container says only low sulfur fuel. There's a $5 bet saying it is OK.

Thanks

if there is not a statement on it that it is ULSD compatible, I sure wouldnt use it in a newer truck, particulate traps very expensive!!

Legally, "No", and this is due to the likelihood of it being sourced from a high-sulfur containing additive.

If you read the MSDS on the product, it says that the product is 88-98% kerosene. There is a "low sulfur" grade of kerosene which contains roughly 400 ppm of sulfur and cannot be legally blended into ULSD. There is also a rarely found ultra-low sulfur grade of kerosene which can be blended into ULSD, but it is unlikely that Ashland Chemical (the people who make this product) are using the ultra-low formulation of kerosene. Otherwise, they would advertise it as being compatible with ULSD fuels.

Practically speaking, our 7.3's were manufactured to run on LSD fuel which the product is meant for. There is no chemical or combustion-related problem with running low-sulfur kerosene as a small ratio blend blend in diesel fuels, but it is against the law due to the regulations surrounding ULSD.

Therefore.....

Can it be used? Yes. Then again, you "can" do a lot of things.
Should it be used? It does not conform to 2007 diesel fuel standards when added to ULSD fuels.
Will it harm your fuel system, injectors, etc? I don't believe so.

BUT... Just because you CAN does not mean that you SHOULD.

Thanks for the amazing post! I didnt think I should use it but other guys at our shop are saying it is also used for ULSD. In my eyes if it doesnt say it is ok for ULSD then I wont use it. Does anyone have a product name or company that they use for 1:an anti-gel/fuel conditioner and 2: a fuel addative during the warmer months

I tried looking but there are so many I dont know which ones would be best for myself and my truck??

Excellent post from Pete!
Can it be used?
Yes, but! Only in pre 2007 engines.
When the 2007's first came out, there where oil's on the market that were not compatible as well. The sulfur content can damage exhaust after-treatment systems.

I use 8-10 oz. in ~30 gal of fuel. Same-same for either the white or gray bottles...
