2 cycle in a 2006

Should / can I run 2 cycle oil in my diesel fuel? We are having a big debate in the office. I think it will clog my CATs in the long run. My buddies say it will add lubricity to my low sulfur diesel juice. What do y'all think?

It does help with the lubricant of the injectors. Won't effect the cat. In fact really doesn't smoke anymore than if you don't use it.

Just make sure the 2 cycle used is "ash less".

A lot of us use this, I do.

Yep. That's what I use. Add 1oz per gallon of fuel and you'll be fine.

Cats and Dogs get re-homed all the time.

Is it now living in some nice box?

I've never used it either, but I do run an additive.

I guess I should say that I did use an additive (Stanadyne Performance Formula) in my 1994 6.5L GMC (Stanadyne DS4 injection system) for approx 60,000 miles.

The pump failed at about 60,000 miles.

The replacement (reman) pump went about 145,000 miles (and is still going) with no use of additives.

Then I sold the GMC.

So, I guess after that example, I should conclude that using SPF caused the failure.....

I am not a big believer in using snake oils in the fuel or oil.......

Having driven big trucks for several years and knowing other people who never used additives ("with no problems") in all sorts of diesels, It's possible that there are literally millions of diesels on the road that don't use any additives at all with no ill effects......

So my initial feeling is that ATF should be used in automatic transmissions, power steering and other hydraulic systems and 2-stroke oil should be used in 2-stroke engines.

I'm not buying the "fact" that it increases lubricity in diesel fuel enough to make it worth using............. (the previous "study" indicated that it was the one of the lower lubricity improvers in the list)

Bio-diesel OTOH, would be a big lubricity improver probably............It was #1 on the list.

It does seem to cut down some clatter. I put it in and when I rounded the corner
aout of the station and started to pull out it all of a sudden quieted down. The ratio
works out to 128:1 so it does seem lean but has an effect.

I think the only real way to tell what if any protection it adds would require
a person to take two sets of sample injectors. One that has lets say 200K miles
without and oil and the other with oil. then disassemble each lot and look
at the wear at a microscopic level. You still going to have a bell curve in each
set of samples. To really get a good data set you would need a very large
sample of injectors to look at and know the history for each.

It may just be a feel good thing. At this point proving it will take more
resources than we have access to at this point.

I run this also, Super Tech TC-W3 Outboard Motor Oil - Walmart.com

Mine had 118k on it when I bought it used. I had no idea of any previous maint work being done. I bought the truck winter of last year and it clattered when cold somewhat. I read on here to use the 2cycle and tried it. It did quiet down some and have been running for 8k miles now with no issues. I personally carry a 16oz bottle in my toolbox and dump it into every fill-up along with the Diesel-Cleen, I also have a 4" Turbo-Bac straight exhaust, so no cat. Maybe it is just piece of mind. Who knows. Everyone has their own opinions. Try it, won't hurt anything as far as I know.

Yup. It just feels good to put something in your fuel and oil etc.....

And if it feels good and doesn't appear to hurt anything, why not?
