Cooling a Stroker

Well hopefully my engine placement probs are solved which leads me to cooling. I presently have a mild 460 in the truck and have a spare engine which I want to build to a 530 inch engine.
So I'm looking at radiators and the dual fan setup from Flexalite. Got to looking at my core support and it will take a little bit to get it in there. Or get a big block stock radiator.

What do you think $500 or a $1000? Will I need it anyway? I sure don't want to do it twice.

Most do the 3g alternator upgrade and install an electric fan from a lincoln mark VIII or thunderbird SC. The fans take something like 90 amps to kick them off, hence the 130 amp alternator upgrade. I am in the process of doing it to my truck now. Seek out member bullitt, he has a nice truck and has made the upgrades.

I agree, the Lincoln Mark VIII fan is definately the way to go. It's two speed in a single fan that matches the factory radiator profile very well.

Plus, low speed alone pulls 2500-3000 CFM, High speed is 5000+. I dare any to try and achieve that with any aftermarket fan for under $30, let alone $300.

The negative is the fan does indeed need a ton of amps to operate. Mostly during start-up, High speed will easily surge 100 amps from a dead stop.

But, a plus is the ability to retrofit (basically a bolt in) a 3G alternator that cranks out 130 amps and will run just about anything you throw at it.

I have had 7 engines over the years, each one has had various forms of heating problems, but the Mark VIII fan instantly took care of it. And all of it on LOW speed as I have never needed to use High speed to cool the engine. It works that well.

Old dirty picture of the fan installed...

3G alternator...

Shows the low speed and high speed solenoids, triggered with an on-off-on toggle switch.

Thanks for the kind words First Today, appreciate it.

What year Lincoln's are you pulling from and is the high-lo switches from the same vehicle?

Got a feeling using the search function would apply here.

I have pulled several lately. They have two bolts to remove them and I try to get as much of the wiring as possible. The thunderbirds are easier to locate. I want to say they are the 97, 98 era. A MarkVIII is a markVIII. I am not sure the year though. I made a shroud for my 460 radiator. I am running a 351 windsor, but plan to use the 460 radiator.

It is the "name" Ford called the super heavy duty radiator installed as an option in some trucks.

If I were to get a new radiator I would go with a solid aluminum unit from eBay. Looks great, has good reviews and a great price.

Yep 1993-98. And that was the end of it, no Mark 9 or Mark X.
