Dash pad removal.

There is a nice looking metal dash under the old foam one, albeit with slots and holes for the foam dash needed to meet the mandates of the time. I know, as I have one, and I use to build the foam dash boards for this era of fords. Keep the metal vent grill components that are cast into the foam dashpad, as they will clean up and can be used in the underlying metal dash.

if i were you i would take that dashpad to an upholsterer and having it proffessionally recovered with some fresh vinyl. do not by any means throw it in the trash. because if you go on denniscarpenters site, or lmc, or npd, or wherever you choose to go to find a new one, you will be looking at a minimum price of $350.00 !
i know this because i threw mine in the trash, and now i cringe at the thought of spending that on a stinkin dashpad. which i may be possibly faced with.

I just took one off today. It's black. There are 14 studs with nuts to be removed. On the ones toward windshield you'll find wire hangers (for lack of correct terminology) your wiring hangs from these.
I plan on cleaning up the one I removed today and get it ready for sale.

You should see my inventory. This happens by traveling 400 miles a week hitting 13+ wrecking yards searching for parts people need. I can't see any of the items going to scrap so I pull them. I also buy on line and sell online. Get this "It's only a hobby" I still work a full time job.

I wish the quality of salvage parts around here was the same level as out west.
I'm either going to cover it in fabric and glue it to the old pad; Or do the old marine grade vinyl.
I do secure ever piece of decent chrome from Slicks thru dentsides I can in the yards around here; Have came across two dentside dash pads no cracks and removed them, as well as tilt steering column's.

I have a local buddy; who's on disabilty and he scoures the yards within 250 miles and make a decent return on eday with his products, mostly muscle car era stuff. Brings in around 700 to 1k a week roughly.

you may be surprised at how good the dash COVERS you can buy for about $100 look when installed. Not saying they are perfect - but you have to look close to know they are covers.

For gaps and cracks in the pad itself, there is a product called Anything Foam, it's supposed to have about the same consistency as the foam pad when cured, but is only available in black. Most fabric stores have a vinyl material with a thin dense foam backing that would work perfectly for wrapping the dash, and it's available in many more colors than the factory offering. I'm thinking of going with a nice tan or gray when I redo my dash next year, along with covering the door panels.
