y2k ranger 3.0 4x4, I went over a bump yesterday and exhaust pipe broke, I'm pretty sure original. I think I need every thing from cat back. Midas, Meineke, dealer or indy, where should I go?thanks.
Depends on what you want. I went to an indy and he fabricated a free flow exhaust from the Y pipe back. new cat and muffler, minimum radius bends to keep everything as straight as possible to help with the performance. Has been on for about 150000 so far maybe more!
Was about $400 to have done so you will need to see what costs are in your area.

I would go to alll of them and get quoutes. they vary a lot...........putting an exhauset system on is prety simple.........once you cut the bolts of the "spring set(sometimes they just snap when you try and take them off.......a sawsall helps also)......it just bolts together and hangs off the hooks............I looked on advanced auto and if you use the big 20 promotion you can get the exhaust pipe, muffler, tailpipe and spring bolt kit for $100..........the bracket for the muffler was $32 but a lot of times that is fine..........the pipes were walker and the muffler was Dynomax........once you cut the old system out you can install the new one in less than an hour......
*basically what i am saying is the hardest part is getting the old system off. if the exhaust pipe is off already. climb under there and if you can get the 2 bolts at the cat off and the bolt holding the muffler bracket you are all set and maybe you just want to get a new muffler bracket anyhow

Thanks powersmoked, but it's 31 degrees here today and i'm 65 and don't want to crawl under the truck anymore so i'll get a couple of quotes and go from there.

Copy that........I am 50 and it gets tough crawling around..............if money is a factor I would suggest going to a few places.....I remeber a long time ago....before I was working on cars I took a chevy in for a muffler.....I went to speedy, mides and one other ...........one of them was 60% of the cost of another.............you also could buy the system from advanced like i was saying for $100-$140 and have someone put it on........you might even look for some promotions..... Best of Luck.......
Problem fixed, took the truck to Meineke and they found the pipe was broken before the cat. They were able to weld a sleeve in to repair it. Probably paid too much $180 but it's quiet once again. Thanks for the help.
