i have a 1983 ranger with the 2.3 in it. rebuilding engine, does'nt seem like
the oil pump has a base gasket. The gasket kit comes with a screen gasket but no base gasket, The new oil pump came with just the screen gasket, and the old oil pump does'nt seem like it had a gasket nor did the block even though its been cleaned up, you can usually tell if there was a gasket there. basically i can't remember if there was or not.
Im not sure about that engine, but in my 88 2.9 v-6 there is a gasket between the pump and block. If you cannot buy one, you can but a roll of the gasket matirial from the auto parts store for about $5.00 and trace one out yourself. If you do that, they make quark and a rubber type. I would go with the thin rubber type because it does better with pressure.
