I want to get rid of the stock exhaust and run a 4' or 5' exhaust all the way back. Will I still need to use DEF. Anyone completely removed the whole system.
As the others said you'll need to tune it and take all responsibility.
H&S tuner has been the most popular here at FTE.
Then you can remove all the stuff 2ndstroke mentioned.
It voids emissions, powertrain, fuel system, engine and all related components is my understanding.
Tuners touch the PCM, TCM, etc. too don't they?
That could be included.
They couldn't deny a radio replacement, power mirror or falty seat for example since that has nothing to do with tuning.
Warranty is a toss-up depending mainly on your specific dealer. If warranty is a concern, don't tune/delete it.
It is a risk but worth it to me. Not everyone feels the same way or wants the same things from their truck as I do.
I'll be happy to answer any and all questions anyone has regarding tuning/deleting their truck.
To answer the OP's first question - You will have to tune in order to remove the emissions equipment (to include, dpf, def, scr, egr) along with several sensors. A CAI is not required but I prefer one personally. Once tuned/deleted your truck will no longer regen or require def and will sound/smell like a diesel again. The 6.7 with a straight pipe is loud but no drone on the hwy. At idle/lower rpms you can hardly hear the exhaust.
