Can someone tell me if there is any sort of theft deterrence system on the 2011 Super Duty? I currently have a 2000 that has a "Steal Me!" system on it. Is there key coding, ignition shutoff stuff? How easy are the new ones to steal by driving them away? My '11 is due at the dealer on Monday so I was wondering if I need to throw my Blackline GPS unit in it.
We only have been getting the deluxe xl models but they have coded keys with 80 bit encryption as their theft deterrent. Thats all they have though. The 40 bit key looks just like it but will not program to the vats system to crank. If u cut a 40 bit key by accident, it will open everything up and turn the starter but not crank it. The new 80 bit key has SA stamped above the teeth, the 40 bit key has S, and the steal me keys are HC8. What u do with 2000?
I think it is 40 & 80. Whatever it is, its twice the encrption rate of the 08's
Thanks for the info. With regards to the 2000, I traded it in.

Yeah, Steve. That's why I thought I'd put my Blackline, monitored GPS unit in it. I've already had a truck stolen and it was total "Gone in 60 seconds," or less experience. I'd just like to find this one before the druggies drive it into a pond again.

Maybe look into a good kill switch type thing to prevent determined amatuers from driving it away. There was a recent thread on a device like a wire harness with a key ,but the installed cost of 700 is nuts. A pro will get the truck no matter cwhat.
