It seems that recently a lot of super duties are being stolen in the area where I live. Since I figure the ignition system in my Excursion is probably the same as the super duties, I wanted to see what you guys were using as a theft deterrent. I can't fit my X in the garage and I have seen videos on YouTube where the Club gets defeated rather easily.
I assume the PATS system is what prevents the Excursion from starting when I wait to long to insert the key after unlocking it. Well this makes me feel a little more comfortable, thanks guys.
Viper here too with the remote that goes off if the alarm goes off. At home at least, I'd know as soon as the alarm goes off.
As for no-start after unlocking - that does NOT sound like any sort of feature, that might be something else going on. I have unlocked mine, worked in the garage for a few hours, then hopped in and drove off no problems. I am unaware of any sort of 'timer' for PATS activation after an unlock is received.

no
PATS is a simple recognition system. Your key has a tiny (rice size) RFID chip in it. The PCM of the Excursion is programmed to recognize that RFID signal.
If you insert a key without the RFID, the motor won't even turn over. It cannot be hotwired either.
all of the Excursions came with PATS, the Superduty from 99-07 didn't have it. Ford included it in all 2008+ for the Superduty

Good call, Robert. I've done the same, or unlocked and gotten in to wait while my wife shops for clothes and then started up without a problem.
That's weird, because my sister's 2000 F150 does the same thing. If you don't start it with in like a minute or two of disarming the alarm, it won't start unless you disarm it again. I thought it was a security feature
Viper Alarm with the keypad that alerts me from a miles distance. Plus it's rigged up to the trumpet horns & stock horn... when it goes off it's pretty loud, and even if they cut the battery it has two back up batteries hidden to keep all that noise going for quite some time.
