I'm olmost ready to rip my tailgate out. first the safety rod comes off due too old and briittle plastic, now my glass won't go down.
How do you get the glass down so that I can lower the tailgate and work on it? I beleive that the motor is shot.
The haynes manuel has a paragraph on if the window is up and all it says is too take access panel off and depress safety lockout rod located at bottom center of tailgate. I could not find it.
Any help is appreciated.
well you could try to cut the power lines to the motor, then bring back a good 12v source and that will tell you if its your motor or a saftey sensor. youll need to pull the access panel to do this though. the chiltons has a good wiring diagram or would help. this is the extreme side so i would wait for someone elses ideas.

I can't get the tailgate open, cause I can't open the window.
But, I can't find what the haynes manuel is talking about the safety lockout rod. Anybody know what that is? The manuel says it's supposed help when you can't open the window.
Any body?
Take the access panel off of the tailgate. On the driver side latch, there will be a white switch. You can remove the two-wire harness and short the harness out so that the window will go down, provided that the motor and wiring is otherwise OK. This switch prevents you from moving the window up/down while the tailgate is open, but if the switch breaks or becomes misaligned...
I think the lockout rod is the steel rod that is vertical near the center of the tailgate (off to one side i think). The end is turned so that when the window is down all the way it hits the end of the rod pulling it down and enableing the tailgate to be opened. You maybe able to open the tailgate by pushing it down with your hand depending how far up your glass is, but this doesn't help you get the window down, sorry.
I don't know about a lock out rod but if the motor is fried it locks the window in place. You should be able to remove the three bolts that hold it in place allowing the window to slide down. This worked with the power window on my drivers door and they use the same motor.
Good Luck,
Mike
Well, if that safety is the lockout rod, then where can I get the plastic end that clips into the latch.
I thought that you had to move the window gears so that the hole lines up on a bolt to get the motor out.
I hate not being able to open my window.
