RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

Folks,

If anybody finds any value in my Tranny Spotters Guide in the tech article section, there was actually a 2nd part to it - a chart showing what vehicle model and years said tranys can be found in. If you want the chart, just send me an email ( ) and I'll send it to you.

Note - I am definitely not a tranny expert. I simply gathered all the data from a multitude of sources INCLUDING the knowledgeable folks in this forum and put it together in one document. It was for my own purposes, but I though it would possibly be of use to others so i submitted it as a "tech article".
I did not attach pictures/diagrams of the tranny pans cause I'm not that smart and it would have required copyright infringment to do so - and that's a bad thing.

While I expressed opinions of some of the trannys in the guide, said opinions are a combination of my own and other people's. If you disagree with any of them - fine, don't bother sending me hate mail - I said I was no expert and I'm entitled to be wrong - my wife says that is a regular occurance.

Regards,

RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

The only information I have found to be conflicting is when the C6 stopped being used. I am pretty sure that they were used up through the 80's in trucks and heavy duty applications. Otherwise the article was pretty resourceful.

RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

Very informative. To add something along the lines of what Derick mentioned: the E4OD replaced the C-6 in 1989, so we know the C-6 may have last been used by the factory in 88 or 89.

Good Work, Bob.
Glad you took the time to put it together. Hopefully it will put some of those "what tranny do I have?" questions to rest.

RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

Gentlemen,

Therein lies the problem. Two of the replies to this post mention info that seems to conflict with each other. There was no shortage of conflicting data when I was trying to put this thing together. When I hit conflicts, I tried to weigh the probable accuracy of the sources and go with the more likely one.

Part of the problem may be tied to different phase in and out periods depending upon the engines....

Aynway, critique is welcomed and if anything is put forward from a really good ssource, I'll update the original (which is what I have mailed to the several that have asked for a copy so far).

Glad someone is getting some use of it.

Later,

RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

I found your guide to be very informative, but as mentioned, it seems a little off for the C6.

My 86 Bronco came standard with the C6, and the shift pattern is: P-R-N-D-2-1, not P-R-N-D-1-2.

Thanks for all of your work, it makes understanding the majority of tranny identification much easier.

Thumbs up RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

I found the guide to be very well writtten and informative, helped me greatly. I have shared it with members of our club and they really appreciated it. Some minor differences may exist but as we all know, shortages of parts may make a manufacturer put in slightly different components to keep the assembly line running.

Thanks RMF

RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

I'm amazed, I've mailed about 20 or so copies of the complete thing to people. I realize it's not War & Peace but I'm glad to see it is of interest to others.

Anyway, spoke with the webmaster and he didn't notice the other part of it. He hopes to have the whole thing uploaded soon, but there is a huge backlog of tech articles to be posted so it may be a while. In the meantime, feel free to drop me a note at my home email listed above and I'll send it to you.

Later,

RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

I have a C6 in my 1990 F250 with a 300-6. I would think in 3/4 ton and above you could get a C6 up until the mid 90's. 3/4 ton and above trucks dont have to follow gov. efficiency requirments.

Paging Craig Wood!
Paging Craig Wood!

I cannot respond to your off-line email request for a copy of the complete guide/chart. Your email service keeps bouncing it back.

The webmaster will be correcting the copy in the tech article section soon, so you'll be able to get it then.

Sorry,

RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section

Great article!

The only thing I would add is that the 5R55E is not exclusive to the SOHC 4.0L. I have the 5R55E in my '99 with the OHV 4.0L. Just thought you'd like the update.

Very useful information you have in there though, thanks!
