RE: Tranny Guide in Tech Article section
1st gear 2.46:1
2nd gear 1.46:1
3rd gear 1:1
if you get a wide ratio gear kit you can change it to be lower and make the transmission almost bulletproof. i have done extensive work on my c6 and still not done yet. i`am trying to eliminate all the friction i can because it takes about 70hp to run a c6 transmission in stock form. i have replaced the brass thrust washers with turrington bearings changed the output housing to a needle bearing instead of a bushing (from a lincoln) installed a 6 pinion front planetary (stock in only3) have found a orignal ford 5 clutch forward drum (stock is 4) updated the rear planet to a 4 pinion instead of stock 3 and installing heavy duty e40d(4r100) internals fron big block or diesel should last forever behind a 302
the wide ratio gear ratios are as follows
1st gear 2.72:1
2nd gear 1.54:
3rd gear 1:1
[B] Actually, the heavy duty is four clutches and most regular duty are only three so you made a score.
Updated the rear planet to a 4 pinion instead of stock 3
[B] The best one is the steel 6 planet in the new Super duty (F450 and up) but the Aluminum 4 planet is good for 500-600Hp I am told.
Also you might want to get the 'R' code servo piston set up from Ford motor sports so the band will keep up with the rest of the trans.
Thanks. I am contemplating changing from E4OD to 5 speed.

When I did my first tranny fluid and filter change at 30k miles, I went to my local auto parts store and told them what I had and they told me to go to the dealer. I called the dealer to find out what kind of tranny I had and they said I had an AODE. After looking at the tranny pan last night, I realized that I had a 4R70W with an orange TSB 98-4 sticker on it. All of my other fluid and filter changes, I have been able to get the fluid and filter at my local auto parts store after the 30k mile change. I now have 134k miles on the truck and it still runs good. I have minor tranny problems that I posted and hope I can find the answers here on FTE.
Thanks,
Chris
