I checked out Ferguson's Tranny Spotter's Guide but did not see older trannys mentioned. I have a 1959 F-350 dually with a 292 and 4 speed. I am trying to figure out if I can put a 5-speed in (for overdrive) or a 2-speed rear end (stock rear end (Eaton?) is geared pretty low (4.88?)). I do not know what types of trannys were used back then and if modern trannys use the same bolt pattern.
Also was wondering if engine is worth saving or if I should just junk the whole drive train and drop a new powerstroke diesel or a 350c.i. or something that will mate up with a ZF and call it good.
PS this is my first post... only 24 more posts and I get email privileges
If you don't get an answer here, try posting your question in the 48 - 60 truck forum. There's a few guys in there that have a good understanding of what later trannys will bolt up to earlier engines, etc.
i`am changing an aod to a c6. i have been through 4 aod`s now and refuse to use them anymore. they made c6`s up to 1996. my problem is on the parts locator i`am using says 75-91 sbf c6`s are interchangable. and from 92-96 the locator wants to know if trans has casting F2UP-CA or not. what would be the reason they want to know that (difference) are there different tail shaft housing sizes ? what tailshaft size should be in a 1991 e150 2wd (van) with 138 wheel base c6? also are there variations between the 6cyl and 8cyl trannies (insides)? and what year c6 trans has the best parts in it ?
here is the locator i use http://www.car-part.com have access to everything
i`am trying to get all this info together to find out what year van to get a driveshaft from
your help would make my life eaiser thanks for your time
Does anyone now what changes have to be made for a c-6 2wd to be used for a 4wd other than the 2wd extension housing. I am kicking around the idea of a c-6 2wd & a devorced np-205. thanks

If I were to do it, I would replace the long output shaft with the flanged one from an older 60's 70's "FE" style C6 trans, but to get to the snap ring that holds the long one in you have to tear it down, so you might as well freshen it up with new seals throughout.
a divorced 205 is a gear driven cast iron transfer case seperated from the transmission with a short driveshaft between the transfer case and transmission, not bolted to the transmission like most 4x4s. I kind of figured that was how to pull the shaft. I was hoping I could just give it a quick kick and it would fall into my arms!
I am ordering a 350 PSD 5SP. I was just informed that the tranny guts are different...beefier...if I get the PTO option. Is this true and if so, where can I find some specs?
Hello all. Does anyone happen to know what all the gear ratios are for the C-6 transmission. I bought my truck used 7 years ago and never have had to touch this transmission. I never realized how tuff these things are.
