Ignition key cylinder no key???

I have looked through threads trying to find what i need but cant find it. What im having a problem with is someone lost the keys to my truck, its been sitting for years now, anyways i need to drill out the cylinder and replace with a new one?????? I am mechanically and electrical inclined but this is something i havent had to do before lol. from what i gather its more or less drill center out with 3/8" drill bit and use paper clip in small hole to remove??????? I can get a new cylinder at autozone for $5.99.....

You shouldn't have to drill anything. You should be able to remove the cylinder and have a locksmith make you a key for it.

I've never replaced one so that may be the case, but I'm willing to bet that your local locksmith could help you out there too. It's an extremely un-complicated mechanism, I bet you could "pick" the lock and turn it without damaging it.

Our local locksmith has a mobil unit that will come on site. It may cost more than $5.99, but it would probably be far less likely to damage something. Might be worth making a few phone calls first.

For the dash mounted ignition cylinders, you just need to unplug, unscrew the bezel ring and it'll come right off.

Apparently. There is a reason why old vehicles were so much easier to work on. It's because they were made to be easier to work on! Granted they were also easier to steal.

I think you are correct, but once it was removed as an assembly, the locksmith should be able to help out with getting a key made.

It's been a while since I tried to remove the cylinder fron the switch itself.

You have to get the cylinder out before you can undo the ring that holds it in . Any how thats what i had to do.I believe part of the ring is behind the cylinder.

You can buy a new ignition and new cylinder for less than $20 at your local auto parts store, complete with 2 new keys!

I kind of had a similar sounding issue. There is a pin hole in the face of the cylinder, that you'll need to insert a pin, nail, screwdriver, or whatever in to, so you can turn the lock past where that pin makes it stop normally. Once you do that, you should be able to slide it all the way in. They used to provide the pin to do that, but they don't anymore. Not that I've seen anyways. Good luck!
