DPF

For the first time in the 2 years I've owned this 2008 F250 6.4L, crew cab, long bed, the "cleaning exhaust filter" notice lit up on my dash, and stayed on during the whole process. I had a 2 second flicker of the cleaning process about a year ago and that's been it.
I've taken the truck across country quite a few times, and with our 5th wheel, but has never come on before.
When I finally stopped, I checked the tailpipe and it was pushing exhaust air hard! I thought - so this is what its supposed to be doing!
I love this truck.

I am sure it has cleaned before, just the regular cleaning cycle. This time may have been the drive to clean cycle? Maybe that is the reason for the continual light?

Yeah It did say "drive to clean" at first. But again this was the first ever it did this. You could definitely tell and feel that it was in the cleaning and regen mode. I drove it until they went back to odometer readings.
I have loads of miles on this thing - 19,982. ha! Bought it new in Nov 08. Of course I didn't drive it for 6 months due to falling off a ladder in June 09. I've been making up for it the past year.
You can barely tell the 5th is back there pulling with this truck. No problems whatsoever since I've owned it (knock on wood). Will never go back to a gas truck again.

I have had the drive to clean recently (last month) as well. I think upon certain conditions you will get that versus the regular message.

Not a big deal as you said...unless you get that often.

I know I enjoy mine as well!

I get it when I pull over to sleep and leave it idling. It doesnt clean itself very well at idle.

If my understanding is correct it doesn't clean itself at all if you put it in park to idle. The drive to clean msg is normally supposed to come on when the regen cycle has been interrupted so much that a proper cycle hasn't been completed in so long that the dpf has become excessively clogged.

It will not regen at idle.
It will regen if it has not seen a regen in 650 miles. its a self preservation thing.

I'm up to 470 miles at the moment with no regen...I'll get one tomorrow on the way to Denver, I'm sure. That Diesel Kleen sure cut down on the frequency. They used to be every 150 miles or so.

I had a similar experience with Power Service additives in my '08. I treat every tank of my '11 with it, well worth the ~$2 per tank!
