They are basically high quality versions of glasspacks. They seem to be engineered towards the loud side, but I don't find anything spectacular about them.
They use louvers inside to catch and redirect the exhaust flow. When glasspacks and similar designs have been tested, they were found to have lower CFM ratings than other mufflers of similar size. Expect these to be on the low end of the performance scale. Basically, they have a bark, but not much bite. Save your money and buy some glasspacks.
They have no packing, and pretty much hold true to the design used in the late 60s and the 70s on GM Muscle cars, only now as choked down. (original had a louvered 1-7/8" flow tube through them)
Allied has an excellent design- any muffler shop carries their line and they have been around for 30+ years! and about 1/2 the price of typicaly "high performance" mufflers
Agreed there, if you want a glass pack type muffler, go for a cheaper one, these sweet thunders are about the same thing as a glass pack that has blown the packing out already. Save your money and get a glasspack.
