Heard a different vibration under the hood and eventually it turned to a rattle. Pulled over and found the a/c compressor "faceplate" lying against the degas bottle (slightly melted). Pulled it out and looks like the shaft sheared. It came out with a piece of woolish ring. The serptine belt fits below the pulley edge and doesn't appear compromised.
Is there a danger in running the truck? I don't need the a/c just don't want to make this worse. Thanks!
Ok. So I am starting at 500 mile business trip. Is this a "must fix next stop" thing or a "ok but don't turn on the a/c thing" and how does the heat apply? I thoght that was a simple mixing of ambient and engine heated air and wouldn't be affected by a bad a/c compressor.
It won't affect your heat
Does degas bottle leak?
If it is just the face plate came off it will only affect A/C and defrost
the pulley runs on a separate bearing and may be safe to drive.I can't see/feel/touch it so can't tell for sure
Degas bottle is ok, just a little melted. I idled it for 15 mins and no prob. Pulley runs free for serpentine belt. Just need to rember to crack the window for desfrost I guess.
