My driveshaft has always had a vibration usually at speeds around 60+mph. My pinion seal had leaked for a while and the pinion had tons of play and was about to go anyways so i swapped the rear end for a good one that i got for $50 from a freind and i figured the vibration was comin from that, but it still does it. its a 4.9l 5 speed manual reg cab long bed. Ill try to explain this the best i can: when im drivin at 60+mph, when i let off the gas slightly to where the load of the driveshaft is "neutral", it does it the worst. Neutral as in when i hit the gas the loads not on the rear end or if i let off the gas to where the load is on the transmission.
If you are sure it is the drive shaft, you can have one custom made, or may even be able to take your existing one in to be balanced. Also, did you know that the transmission tailshaft and the rear end are never in a straight line? They should always be off ever so slightly. For some reason, this prevents premature U-joint failure. Don't ask me why, but may be worth checking into.
Yea i had to get a custom one made for my 86 f250 mud truck. Ive never heard that at all about the allignment thing. im wondering if i can just go to the JY and get a driveshaft and throw it on. How much would it be to get balanced and what kind of shop would do it?
but i have the same problem you have at around 115 or so and i have a small dent in my driveshaft and i'm pretty sure it has to be that so i'll probably have to get a new one made which is $$$ performance shaft technology charged like 350 for the one in my t-bird
Fuuuuuuuuudgeeeee. I'm sure mine has dents haha. Come to think of it my dad helped me when puttin the rear end on and he did some aligninng but it did the exact same thing with the old rear end so it's gotta be the driveshaft.
