Tonight on way home .I Noticed the high range light was on dimmly . I know it was not in 4x4 as I was playing around on icy roads some.
I pressed buttom and tried 4x4 worrked fine shut off no dim light. I know this question was asked while ago.
I spent 30 minute reading usless (to me ) posts . Any ideas guys ???
I have had several of these setups never saw it before. All electrics for 4x4 system were new when I rebuilt xs-fer case 30000 niles ago .
I'll be yanking cluster to check 2 tach dash setups I have . So I'll 1 clean contacts on switch all plugs under truck to see if happens again. I thank you we will see .
Bringing this thread back to life in hopes someone has a quick answer, I admittedly have not started to trouble shoot this one.
Same issue for me, 4x4 high light is on at all times, but is dim. I hit the button and 4wd engaged fine without troubles (light was brighter), disengaged fine as well, but the light was still on and dim.
Recently had the dash off to replace the check engine light that was burnt out but have had no problems for over a month since that work was done.
Sounds like the 4x4 indicator switch in transfer case is worn or actual pawl in transfer case worn. It is a ball switch in the transfer case that sets light states...
Yea sounds like its slightly out of adjustment, not going back to 2h far enough to turn off the light.
Mark its current position first then loosen up but do not remove the three screws retaining the position sensor switch in place. Slightly rotate the switch one way and tighten the screws and test it. Unfortunately I do not recall what way to move it.
Test the full selection range making sure its solidly in each and that the light correctly reflects position.
If you go the wrong way go back the opposite way, if everything else if good, sounds like it is you should have no trouble tweaking just it a tad until the 4x4 light correctly matches the range selected.
By marking its position before making any adjustment you can always return to it if needed, based on what you've stated you shouldn't have to move it very far at all to correct for it.
