I have a 91 Bronco with a 5.0 the EEC went out. I finally got one from a pick-apart yard, but the numbers don't match all the way. I had a guy tell me while I was at the yard that one from a F-150 would work as long as it was the same engine & trans. Well the engine runs just fine now, but it will not shift right. When I put it in drive it seems like it is in high gear, with it in low it feels like it is in 2nt gear. It will take off in low and will shift into high when I put it in drive about 25 mph. But when you stop it will not down shift into low, you have to put it back in low to take off. My old EEC was a EFI-SD47B , F1TF-12A650-TA & the New one is
EFI-SD36E, FOTF-12A650-ATA. Will I have to match all of the numbers to make it work right or will I be able to use one from a F-150 as long as it is the right trans. I was not able to check and see what trans the F-150 had in it because it was gone. Thanks for any ifo I can get.
i think if they were the same engine tranny year combo you should be safe. have you called ford to see if they can crossrefernce another box # for you?
As long as you get one for the same engine/tranny combo it will run normally, the exact processor codes does not have to match. You need to determine exactly what tranny you have since there were several available for that year that would require some computer control, check the tranny code on your drivers door pillar.
like conanski said this is very important. especially if the f150 had a manual tranny in there and your current setup is an E4OD although i would think the od light would be flashing an such also.
Well I was able to put in the new EEC. The motor run's great now starts right up, but it seems like it is in high gear when put in drive. It will go into low if you put it in low, & seems to shift when I put it in drive about 25 mph. Everything else seems to be working, it will go into 4x4 high & low. The truck I got it from did not have a drivers door so I was not able to see the code tag, but it did look like the same trans I have. They both say metric on the pan & both were 5.0s. So I guess I have a bad trans, is there any thing I need to check before I get another trans from the pick a-part yard. And what trans will fit the Bronco, will it have to be from a Bronco or will one from a F-150 work. I know on some of the old trans you could use a C-4 or a C-6 by pulling the tail shift. Thanks for all of your help everyone.
I have a 91 but it is a late 91, so I mite as while say I have a 92. Did the F-150's use a E40D trans, this is my first project that has a EEC so I am going to have to learn what works with what all over again. Is the E40D the only trans that will work with the Bronco set up. And is there any thing I can check before I just find another trans.
the AODE wasnt put into a Bronco/F150 from what i have seen only the E40D,M5OD and 4r70w (f150 only). the AODE is a car tranny and was put into the mustangs,Tbirds etc...
B-2 i would make sure your Psom is calibrated for the tire size your running and also pull the tranny codes.
The E4OD saw it's first application in mid/late 1990 in the entire F-series half-ton line which included the Bronco. The E4OD replaced the AOD in this product line. The AODE never saw application in the full-size truck line.
The guys are right here. The PCM (EEC-IV computer) must be for the same engine and transmission IF you are trying to make an E4OD work properly. Now, if you decide to swap transmissions, you have the option of going to the Mazda-built M5OD, the C6, the ZF 5-speed, among others. Each will require certain mods especially to the rear driveshaft. Length will be different since the E4OD is the longest tranny that was put in these trucks.
