M5OD - is this typical? - 2nd to 3rd shift, feels like the synchro grumbles a little - no audible grind, I can just feel it through the shift lever. the other shifts are smooth. even 4th to 3rd is smooth. also smooth if I double-clutch. but during normal 2nd to 3rd shift, I can feel that brief meshing. This is a new truck, should I get it "logged" with the dealer for future warranty concern, or is this normal for the mazda 5 spd, or will it reduce as the tranny breaks in? thanks in advance for any input.
what vehicle is this in? i have a 99 f-150 4x2 owned since 99 and it never shifted smoothly, now i can't get it into 1st if stopped with clutch pedal out. i don't know if bleeding the slave cylinder will help you, i haven't tried it yet. i changed fluid to full synthetic and that didn't make a difference either.

it's a 03 F150 4x4 4.6. mine is a little slow going into 1st, you just have to keep nudging it and waiting... won't go straight into reverse, you have to put it in 1st and then it goes right into reverse. the clutch shows no sign of dragging.
a buddy swears the clutch in mine is hanging just a little, just enough to keep the trans spinning a little but not enough to move the truck/creep. he says bleed the slave cyl. i didn't know ford put a manual trans behind the 4.6 v8 in any f-150s?! anyway, haynes manual gives good intructions of bleeding these, the bleeder screw on my v6 trans is easily visible/accessible on driver side of trans. need 2 people to bleed tho.
so do you think this will improve as the tranny gets broken in a little? Is this type of shifting common with the mazda 5spd? or will the synchro get worse and worse?
anybody have any input on this? is this common for the M5OD? I am sure the only remedy at the dealer (warranty) will be a new tranny. having a new one put in seems risky - just a chance to introduce other new problems - so I don't want to start down that road if this type of shifting is normal for these trannies. thanks for any advice.
Once in a great while my M50D will grind into third for no reason. But only once every six or seven months. I would let your dealer know about it now. First gear is not synchronized and will only let you shift into it with the vehicle stopped or very slow and the clutch fully disengaged. The M50D is not the strongest design. Mine has 107,000 miles on it and is still going strong, however I would have your third gear problem fixed before your warranty runs out. Good luck.
I had this problem. Orignally blamed my shifiting but it eventually got much worse (and now I have it again). Dealer fixed the problem at 30,000 miles (no grumbling from dealer so it must be a common problem) take it in now or wait until just before your pwr train warranty expires; you do not want it on your tab.
In the meantime keep the ATF 'fresh'. Right now I'm experimenting with posi lube in the ATF (don't screw around like this while under warranty). Though expresssly not recommended on the posi lube pkg I have not hit a hard 3rd since.
