Stuck guage

Drove my '86 F-250 today and the other guages worked finally! Its the gas guage thats stuck. Could that one gauge in particular be junk?I have a gauge from my '84 F-150 that works. It'll fit right in right?

99% of the time the sending unit in the fuel tank is bad. They are famous for going bad in these trucks.

Could the sending unit explian why my twin tanks might not work? Is there a way I can test the gauge?

Your tanks probably don't work because the switching valve mounted on the frame is bad. To test the gauge, pick the tank you are working on(hopefully the front since thats the easiest to get to) and pull the sending unit wire off the top of the tank. Put the key in run, engine off, take the sending unit wire and ground it. The gauge should peg empty or full. Then take the sending unit wire off ground and let it hang in the air. The guage should swing full scale the opposite direction. If it passes this test, the wiring and the gauge are good, and then sending unit does have a problem.
