Exclamation No guages after engine swap....

Hi, 1992 F-150 4x4 5spd
I swapped my 300 out for a 1994 302. I then used a 1996 wiring harness off an f-150 and a 1996 computer out of an F-150... We are still working alot of things out... anyways, I have no guages!!! no fuel, oil, temp, alt, none!! I was woundering what , my problem would be and exactly how to fix it. Before the swap, everything worked fine. Lights, blinkers, dash lights and speedo work still. The alt guage reads dead, the gas gauge reads full, the temp guages reads cold, the oil pressure guage reads low. The guages do not move or anything..... I need alot of help. Please be very specific as I am only learning, lol
help!

I am going off an older diagram, so I don't know if the wire colors are the same.

See if you have a white/red wire going to the oil sending unit down by the oil filter. If you do, turn the keyswitch to run, take the white/red wire off and ground it to the engine block. The guage should be full scale, either low or high. Then take the wire off ground and let it touch nothing. The guage should swing the opposite direction.

Do the same for the temp guage. The older diagram shows it to be a red/white wire. Do the same test with the keyswitch on, grounding and then not grounding the wire. The guage should swing back and forth.

If both guages do not react correctly, then I would assume you have a compatiblity problem from year to year. I don't know much about the differences in the trucks, but would the 96 cluster fit in the 92 dash?

Also, I don't think my windsheild wipers are working and what do I need to do about my gas guage? and, for the temp guage, describe exactly where the wire will be located.... thanks Mark

Not sure, but usually on the intake manifold screwed in where the water flows near the thermostat housing. Watch out, your fuel injected engine has two of these. One will have two wires going to it, and it is for the computer system. The one you want will have one wire going to it only.

I picked the oil and the water temp sensors for testing, because they are easy to get to. Usually the problem is a corroded connection or a bad sensor. But for both to be bad at the same time, AND the fuel guage not working, and with all the work you have just done, it looks likely it's not a normal failure but a wiring problem between years. If you want to test the fuel guage, it can be tested the same exact way. Find the sending unit wire on top of the tank, select the correct fuel tank if you have two, and ground the wire just like before. The guage should swing back and forth.

ok, well, i did the self check you said to do and they did the same, so I started to check fuses and it turns out that I had a blown fuse, I am a little embarrased about missing such an easy thing, ohwell, lol but my windsheild wipers are still not working properly (at-all). Thanks for your time. -Mark
