The fuel guage in my 2003 SD is stuck on full. I know that it shouldn't be at full right now. THe truck only has 1900 miles on it. Any ideas? I really don't want to have to take it back under warranty, if it is just something stupid, like a fuse or something. Thanks for any help.
my '03 did the same thing, stuck on 3/4 full for about an hour after i filled up the tank. then another time, i started up the truck and it only read 1/4 tank full when i knew for sure i had over 1/2 full, then i filled it up and the truck went back to full. pretty strange
It's possible that the float is stuck. If you top-off (overfill) your tank to the point of filling the gas filler neck, the float can get stuck. Unfortunately I don't have a remedy for you other than (1) contact the dealership and have them fix it under warranty(obviously admit nothing!), and (2) if you ARE topping the tank off all the way up the filler neck... stop that!
Had an '87 once that did something similar. Turned out that one of the baffles in the fuel tank came loose on one side and jammed the float. I found out about it when I ran out of gas when the indicator showed I had about 1/2 tank.
Thanks for the info. I put gas in it, (not filled up) and it read normal ion saturday. Come sunday, it read full, and hasn't moved since. Iknow my truck doesnt get that good fuel milage.
