I have the DDM kit in my Explorer. 35w 6k haven't needed high beams. Go with the cheaper kit, it has enough light you don't need high beams.

I'd say that depends on what you're doing. I go up in to the Rockies where the closest street light can be 25+ miles away, so there's no such thing as "too much light" especially on an unfamiliar trail in a snowstorm. Now, if you're 99.999% driving where there is some other light source you won't need maximum lumens. The 35W HID kits put out about 3x what your current lights put out, so you can VERY safely go with the 35W kit.

Good point, I live in a big city so I can get away with it. But if you don't then maybe that's for you.

Spec's below are from www.ddmtuning.com for their Slim Ballast kits, but other brands are probably very comparable

Typical halogen bulb = 900-1200 lumens
35W HID kit = 3200-3400 lumens (~3x normal halogen)
55W HID kit = 5000 lumens (~4x+ normal halogen)

35W kit will be more than enough for anyone really, but that extra bit of light for when I'm WAYYY out there made it worth the extra $ for me (which for the DDM kits is only $10 extra)

Don't buy the 6000k kit, to blue in color. The factory hid kits are typically around 4300K, very white in color. I have a 4300k 35watt kit in my 2002. I love it. The 9007 bulb kit puts the bulb in the same spot as the halogen 9007 bulb was, so no blinding oncoming drivers. 6000k is rice burner blue!

I had 8000Ks in mine- I liked the slight blue tint. The 6000 are very white with just a hint of blue.....
