Headlight upgrades. HID?

What do you guys do for upgrades?
Have you installed a HID upgrade? Is it worth it?
Where did you buy a kit?

heres a kit that in the title it says it fits 1979 ford. doesnt say truck just 1979 ford..

i measured a headlight and its more like 7 3/4 x 5 5/8 but these say 7x6

I haven't installed a HID kit yet but I may end up doing it. For now I went with the Hella Conversion Lens and the upgraded headlight wiring harness with relays. You can choose from all kinds of bulbs. Major difference from stock lighting.

I thought there would be a kit with a standard square bulb with no mods. The 6x7 might have to be modified to work.

Just adding relay's can add a volt or more measured at the lights and significantly increase brightness even with stock lights. Relays would also be a first step with improved bulbs.

The basic idea is to tap power from a strong source - best is the alternator stud - and run 10 guage wire through a 30A breaker to a pair of relays in the engine compatment, one for low beam and one for high beam. The relays are operated by the OE light feed wires and power is fed by the 10 guage wire. Voltage is increased because the current does not have to make the long trip through fairly small wires into the cab, through the dimmer switch and back out to the lights.

73,in my opinion the best set up is the hella or bosh lights with relays hooked to the battery useing 12 ga wire and an upgraded harness to the lights stay away from those hella look-a-likes with the city light bulb [i tried these all so and there junk] i have 3 sets sitting in my parts room i dont care what bulbs they put in the light pattern is not good at all i have tried differnt sets over the years and hellas win hands down for visability/durability i drive class 8 heavy trucks for a living and have led lights installed in my k.w. they are the 4 light/square system and they are the best light i have found so
far [just awsome] and am trieing to see if they are making them for the large square lights that are standard on sterlings when they come out with them at a better price i will be changing out the hellas but at 1500 a set just a little too pricy for 6 sets on all my trucks

I have been real happy with my sylvania silverstar glass 7" with the halogen bulbs inside. I also have a relay conversion on my headlights with 14ga wire throughout. Nice and bright. My "opinion" is HID's work great but look hideous on an old truck.

i run this harness.

Illuminator Headlight Harness - WILD HORSES Full Size Ford Bronco Parts

it has a diode in it that allows you to run both low and high beams at the same time.
i use sylvania silver stars. made a huge difference. so bright i get people coming the
other way flashing me to turn down the high beams.

i had to lengthen the wires a little but i wanted the relays farther back in the engine bay
also. made a nice difference.

as far as HID kits this is the only one i would get:

it is at the bottom. it has a seperate ballast for low and seperate for high.
so 4 total. maybe over kill but i believe it would be properly setup that way.

You can do relay's or upgrade your alt to the 3g 130amp.That will make them lights bright.

I don't have a before shot against a wall, but I could take one for an after.

The difference is extremely noticeable. I think the Ranger showed more improvement than my Dentside did.

Low beam is great, but click on the High beams and it is fantastic!

I highly recommend the LMC kit, cheap and easy. But either way, if one makes their own, LMC, Bronco Graveyard or some other kit, it is easily one of the best improvements that can be made to these old trucks.

that wild horses harness looks like what i need. Nice you can run high and low beams! thanks guys
