i have been looking at some HID kits. just to clarify ours are 9007 hi/lo in the same bulb correct? also do must do the 35 watt or the 55, i have heard that the 55 will pull too much power?

If you go with a good quality kit like Retro-Solutions the 55 watt will be fine. Yes the 9007 is the kit you want.

Be careful on how you mount it and to pull the power from the passenger battery. Cheap kits, poor grounds, and bad installs can play havoc on your DP Tuner.

Sounds like cheaper kits and improperly grounded installs will sometimes cause the truck to die, when the headlights are turned on. Not everyone has this problem, but with the sudden market for HID kits there are many kits out there that are inferior. Most have no problems when pulling power from the passenger battery and grounding it well. Not sure if it is just the DP-Tuner that has the problem, but it sounds to me like a frequency problem and feedback to the PCM.

Good quality kits installed properly do not have this issue. Ebay kits and such......no guarantees.

I bought a DDM Tuning tuning kit but went with the Slim Ballast kit. It uses fully digital ballasts as stated on their page, but the Apexcone kit doesn't mention if the ballasts are fully digital or not, so I went the "safe" route with the Slim Ballast kit. Total cost including FedEx 2 Day priority shipping and an extra wiring harness I didn't need was under $100.

I do have the stumble on occasion but only on very cold mornings when the truck isn't warmed up. Once warmed up I never have the issues but my batteries are 3yrs old and my alternator has 180k miles on it, so one of them is likely the source of my issue.

DDM is the one we all use. They have a good policy about warranties compared to others and are local to me.

I'm using a 55W kit but I have '05 headlights also, but I would think the 2000 OEM headlights would have sufficient room inside so that heat wouldn't be an issue. I was turned on to the DDM kits from a Honda CBR motorcycle forum. For headlights that small, you stick with 35W kits, but given the size of SD headlights you should be fine with a 55W kit.

The only thing I was worried about on the 55w kit was pulling that much power from my truck! So I thought 35 would be better??

Consider running a ground wire back to the battery rather than grounding to the frame.

Boat's can fry their navigation electronics when a bad anchor-winch ground pulls current through the boat's common ground circuit. Put a fuse on the ground wire is extra insurance for your tuner.

With the Hi/Lo kit from DDMTuning, the harness gets connected directly to the positive and negative battery posts.

for our trucks does it have to be the high/ low kit or will the regular 9007 work?

It needs to be a Hi/Lo kit since 1 bulb does both the Hi and Lo beams. In say a 1969 Mustang with 4 beams, 2 for Hi, 2 for Lo, you would need a kit for each pair of lights.
